About this skill
An Unmanned Aerial Systems technician is key to building and keeping drones safely in the air.
One of the most rapidly advancing and impactful fields of modern technology, Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), or drones, are transforming industries and services worldwide. While traditional aviation relies on a pilot operating an aircraft from inside the cockpit, UASs are operated remotely. This offers a highly agile way to perform a variety of tasks in a safer and more efficient manner, such as aerial surveying, infrastructure inspection, and precision agriculture. Their applications extend to sectors as diverse as construction, firefighting, wildlife conservation, and public safety.
Working with Unmanned Aerial Systems requires a multidisciplinary approach to technology and operations. UAS Technicians build, test, and maintain drones by applying knowledge of aerodynamics, flight control systems, and communication links, along with expertise in robotics, software, and regulatory compliance. With industries rapidly adopting drone technology, an understanding and imagination for the potential future uses of this technology is essential.
